Mollymook, New South Wales – Mollymook Golf Club located on the south coast of New South Wales won the award for both the “New South Wales Legends Tournament of the Year” and the “Australian Legends Tournament of the Year” at the recent NSW/ACT PGA Annual Awards after hosting the Australian PGA Seniors Championship late last year.

Mollymook’s infamous Hilltop championship course has played host to many large member and corporate events, and in the last few years has graduated from a one day Legends Pro-Am to the NSW/ACT PGA Seniors Championship to the most prestigious Legends Tour event on the 2016 calendar, the Australian PGA Seniors Championship.

Mollymook’s Director of Golf, Barry West commented on how pleasing it was for the club to win a national award.  West said “The members have really supported this event with over 60 volunteers coming out to assist behind the scenes during the tournament.  It a great achievement to have our annual PGA Legend’s event nominated for Tournament of the Year for the last four years in a row and now win both State and Australian honours.”

The idea to host the Legends Tour event at Mollymook was the brainchild of a local Ulladulla business, BSP Advisory Chartered Accountants, who have been the major sponsor over the last four years.  They were also on hand at the PGA Awards to receive the “Tournament of the Year” Award.  Their support and the backing of many other local businesses in the region has seen the event grow into an Australian Legends title.

The State and National PGA Senior Championship hosted at Mollymook, has attracted some of the Australian legends of the game including Rodger Davis, Peter O’Malley, Mike Harwood, Peter Fowler and Terry Price to name a few.  The 2016 Australian Championship was won by New Zealander, Martin Pettigrew, who was playing in his first Legends event.  Pettigrew has since gone on to win several other Legends events this year.

The Hilltop course at Mollymook underwent major renovations in 2016 in preparation for the Championship with the majority of bunkers being totally rebuilt and reshaped.  This upgrading has been enjoyed by members and visitors who are experiencing some of the best bunkers in New South Wales.  The course has also recently moved up many of the course ranking list and made its way back into the Top 100 Courses in Australia.

The golf operation at Mollymook is managed by Troon Golf®, the leader in upscale golf course management.  Headquartered in Scottsdale, Ariz., Troon® started as one facility in 1990 and has since grown to become the largest third party manager of Golf and Club operations in the world.
